Owner Comments:

Circulation strike mintage 4,094,000

With patience and cherrypicking, I was able to find an example with above average strike and original luster, with this MS-63 better struck than most MS-63s I examined in the marketplace.

Both the obverse and reverse have smooth surfaces with virtually no contact marks on the creamy fields and devices as well as a frosted texture with satiny luster.

On the obverse, Miss Liberty's head and left hand details show 90% and 60% of details respectively. Skirt lines are almost full.

On the reverse, the fields are smooth with a few scuff marks on the Eagle's breast and left leg overall flat with a few feathers.

Numismatic News: In 1947, collectors were not aware until later in that year that this would be the current Weinman design's final year, so many scrambled to save rolls of this date. However, the relatively low mintage for a Philadelphia coin made this difficult. While certainly not rare, the 1947-P half dollar is a little more elusive than the issues immediately preceding in higher grades. It is generally a little better struck than the high mintage coins of 1941-45, and gems are very pleasing.
