Circulation strike mintage 12,292,200
Both the obverse and reverse of this coin have fantastic, full mint luster with a slight golden undertone that radiates off the devices and fields. The fields are very smooth, and the strike well above average showing almost full head details and skirt-lines on the obverse, as well as the Eagle's breast and left leg feathers on the reverse.
Numismatic Note: Coins minted early in this year have flat rims which, as in the 1916 year's coin, frame the coin details attractively. Coins minted later in 1917 have rounded rims which were more common and were used in production of Walking Liberty coins through to 1947.
On a personal note, this coin also has sentimental value since 1917 is the year my maternal grandfather emigrated to the United States and became a citizen.
