Gold started the year at $387/oz. and ended at $369/oz. Coin shows no spots or toning, nice MS strike.
Three $5 gold commemorative coins were released in 1996, and two of them were issued for the 1996 Olympic Summer Games in Atlanta, Georgia. The second Olympic coin featured a stylized image of an athlete lighting the Olympic cauldron. The reverse features an Olympic flame design that is the logo for the Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games.
There were only 9,210 uncirculated and 38,555 proof coins minted by the West Point Mint. The gold coins issued for the Atlanta Olympics are among the lowest of all minted commemoratives. These coins are very difficult to find in perfect MS70 condition (a little more than 350 graded in MS70) and moderately difficult to find in perfect in PF70 condition (about 630 graded in PF70, more than 900 fewer than those graded in PF69 condition).
