The 2016 National Park Service Silver Dollar was issued to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the National Park Service. The federal agency, which was established in 1916 under President Woodrow Wilson, is currently responsible for overseeing approximately 400 sites covering 84 million acres of land within the United States and its territories.
In addition to national parks, the NPS system includes monuments, battlefields, military parks, historical parks, historic sites, lakeshores, seashores, recreation areas, scenic rivers and trails, as well as the White House.
