Owner Comments:
The 1987 gold $5 coin commemorates the 200th anniversary of the U.S. Constitution. There were 214,225 uncirculated and 651,659 proof coins minted by the West Point Mint. (A record mintage in the Modern Commemorative era for $5 gold pieces.) This was a very popular coin release and perfectly graded MS70 and PF70 coins are fairly plentiful.
This coin features an intricately feathered eagle in flight with a quill (feathered) pen held by one talon on the obverse. The reverse shows a grouping of 13 stars encircling a large quill pen with the words "We the People" inscribed on top.
