This is the 4th half dollar in the "Modern Commemorative" era. It was minted two years after the U.S. Congress Bicentennial half dollar was produced.

The 1991-D half dollar commemorates Mount Rushmore and features a panoramic view of the granite face of the Mount Rushmore sculpture on the obverse, and a side profile of an American Bison and the words "Golden Anniversary" on the reverse. There were 172,754 MS coins minted. These half dollars are comprised of 92% copper and 8% nickel. An MS70 graded coin is a key coin in any collection of Modern Commemorative half dollars.
