Owner Comments:

As with Jefferson, Jacksons approach to the issue of his need for a first spouse was rather unconventional. He did not do as did Jefferson but rather asked his niece, Emily Donelson, to assume the role of his dead wife, which she did. This was a platonic relationship but the role was filled. Donelson was later replaced by the wife of his adopted son, Sarah Yorke Jackson, who then stepped in.
