(Obverse design: Osaka Castle and Bunraku Puppet)

Osaka Castle: Located in central Osaka Prefecture, this symbol of Osaka welcomes 1.55 million visitors yearly (2013 figures). One of Japan’s three most famous castles, the donjon was reconstructed in 1931 and was designated as a National Registered Tangible Cultural Property in 1997.

Bunraku Puppet: Originally known as ningyo joruri and one of Japan’s best-known traditional arts, bunraku puppet theater is an art form that integrates three elements: tayu (narration), shamisen (a three-stringed instrument), and ningyo (puppets). It was registered as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2008.
