Owner Comments:
Mint records indicate that 591,000 1880-CC silver dollars were originally produced. Writing in 1993, however, Bowers relates that the Assay Commission found 96,000 '80-CC dollars to be of insufficient silver fineness. These coins were melted in early 1881, leaving a net mintage of 495,000 coins for this issue. Although not a great rarity in Mint State, the 1880-CC has always been popular due to the CC mintmark. Most collectors settle for MS 64 or MS 65 examples.
