Owner Comments:

Despite being a Philadelphia coin, which are known for their striking quality, the 1944 P coin often comes flatly struck in the centers. Surface abrasions don't usually present a problem and luster is generally quite frosty with some satin pieces out there. Brilliant and more moderately toned examples both exist. This coin often displays more toning than other Philly coins of this era.

The present coin is in a PCGS OGH slab and has a wonderful razor-sharp strike with beautiful rolling mint luster. Only some minuscule, wispy grazes can be seen in the right facing field. Coin is bright white. Looks more like a MS 66+ or even a 67 by today's standards.

Ranked 13th in MS rarity and 12th in high grade MS rarity (MS 65 or better) in the short set. It is the rarest Philly coin produced during World War II. It's 58th of 65 overall and 57th of 65 in overall high grade MS rarity.

PCGS Population 1341/123 & NGC Census 955/103 in MS 66.

Mintage is at 28,206,000.
