Owner Comments:

O.105 R3. Eliasberg. Finest known of the die variety. Very tough R3 to find mint state, with the second finest known only being MS63. Per Eliasberg cataloger, "An average impression of O-105, with sharp peripheral details and central weakness. The obverse is lustrous light ivory with light gold toning. The reverse is darker with mottled reddish orange and steel blue. Surfaces are very pleasing with a few very tiny flaws. Among the finest known specimens of this die combination. Pedigree: George H. Earle Collection, Henry Chapman, June 26-29, 1912; John H. Clapp. Clapp estate, 1942, to Louis Eliasberg. Die notes: Obverse relatively late with clash marks and die cracks, however, the die crack of O-105a is not visible. The reverse is perfect. Edge: Indistinct". Sold in The Louis E. Eliasberg Collection by Bowers and Merena, April 7, 1997, Lot 1750 for $3,520. Obtained by private treaty from Liberty Coins on July 29, 2014.
