Medal, Plaquette, 1920, Bronze, France. FARMER/MONK (St. Francis of Assisi) WITH OXEN PLOWING by Ernest Revillon after the painting by Théobald Chartran. Obv. Scene of Farmer or Monk using pair of Oxen to Plow a Rugged Field; Rv. Rose Bush with Two Open Buds and a Pair of Birds on Branch. Edge: Bronze with Hallmark. Ernest Revillon (1854-1937) was a great sculptor and also a medallist (very few medals or plaques from him are known). Chartran (1849-1907) was a classical French propaganda painter. As 'T', he was one of the artists responsible for occasional caricatures of Vanity Fair magazine, specializing in French and Italian subjects. Cf. Delcampe, 17 Sept. 2014, Realized $170.00.
