Set Description
As a baseball fan, I was quite excited that the U.S. Mint would be minting the Baseball Hall of Fame Commemorative Coin in 2014. As the release date for the coins came closer, NGC announced that the coins could be encapsulated with your team's logo on the label. So I planned on acquiring the PF and MS in both the silver $1 and clad 50c coins with the SF Giants team logo. NGC would also offer a "2014 World Series Champions" label with the coin. So when the Giants won the World Series that year, I added a set with those labels to my collection.

I was incredibly happy to combine my joy of collection modern commemorative coins with my love of baseball and the San Francisco Giants.

In 2014, the United States Mint launched one of their most popular commemorative coin programs in recent history. These coins were issued in recognition and celebration of the National Baseball Hall of Fame, which celebrated its 75th anniversary in 2014. The program, which honored the National Baseball Hall of Fame, included three coins sharing a common design and innovative domed shape.

From April 11-May 11, 2013, a nationwide competition was held to determine the obverse design for the coin. The selected obverse design for the 2014 Baseball Hall of Fame Silver Dollar, as well as the other two coins in the program, was created by Cassie McFarland of San Luis Obispo, California.

Opening sales levels were extremely strong with one-day sales reaching 108,164 proofs and 48,511 uncirculated coins, accounting for nearly 40% of the maximum authorized mintage. After less than two weeks of sales, orders had been placed for the entire 400,000 maximum authorized mintage. The United States Mint continued to accept orders on a waiting list basis, before a sell out was later declared.

In mid-December, the Mint unexpectedly resumed accepting orders for the Baseball Silver Dollars. Additional coins were made available for sale as the result of orders placed by customers which had been cancelled due to payment issues. The small quantity of available coins quickly sold out.
