Owner's Description

Heritage Rare Coins - An astonishing gem coin with wonderful brilliant luster and a great bold strike. This coin's eye-appeal is tremendous. The bell lines are clearly visible along with all other Reverse device elements.<br />As noted by Rick Tomaska in his outstanding text The Complete Guide To Franklin Half Dollars, this coin is "extremely scarce in MS 66 or MS 66 FBL, and rare in MS 66 FBL with brilliant untoned surfaces" [p.75] as most gem coins emanate from mint sets.<br />Mr. Tomaska adds that the 54-D is a classic example of how mintage levels and rarity may be disassociative. "While it has the third highest mintage in the series, the 1954-D is extremely difficult in gem condition. As with other D mints from the era, strike is generally not a problem, but bagmarks and water spots are." [p.76]<br />This coin is devoid of any of the noted perils and, as such, solidly qualifies for MS 66 FBL status.
