Lustrous chocolate-brown with noticeable mint red around the obverse portrait and stars and to a lesser degree through the reverse legends, that side with some darker olive toning as well. Pleasing frosty texture and a nice, natural overall appearance. Minor nick on the jaw and a small planchet flake right of star 8, as-struck. Fairly early die state showing the always-present die cracks, but no cud break over TES. A highly attractive choice mint state example of the less common Medium Letters Red Book variety.
Provenance: Ex. Dr. James O. Sloss, September 1958; R.E. Naftzger, Jr.; Kagin's October 1983 sale, lot 1121. J.C. Laurence Co. envelope with attribution and provenance notes included.
