Owner Comments:

The 1838 half eagle is a better date in the Classic Head Half Eagle set. It is decidedly scarcer that the 1834 plain 4 and 1836 half eagle, but not as scarce the 1837 and the southern mint coins. The coin is quite scarce in Mint State and AU. The coin is fairly available in VF and EF.

The coin shown above has original surfaces with subdued luster. It has never been cleaned. As such it is an unusual piece that has been "improved" since it was minted nearly 180 years ago. This coin has received CAC approval.
