Owner Comments:
The 1836 half eagle is the second most common date in the Classic Half Eagle series after the 1834 with the plain 4. Despite its status as a "common coin," I believe that this piece is quite a bit scarcer than the 1834 given the number of pieces that I have seen offered.
The coin above has very bright, almost Proof-Like surfaces with virtually no marks. At certain angles, one can detect a slight rub in the fields. The reverse grades MS-63. The MS-61 grade, which PCGS assigned to this piece, is a "market grade," but it is reflective of the true value of this piece. Coins like this are worth more than the many marked up and cleaned gold coins from this era that are often seen.
