1862 1C S4 45 Deg CW Rotated Dies Obv. 6: (C) Two boxlike protrusions are visible in the denticles to the left of the date. Date very close to bust point. Rim crumbling from 3:00 to 12:30. Rev. F: Olive leaf and shield points away from denticles. Die crack (very fine) from right wreath vertically to denticles at 1:00.

From Snow's latest attribution guide: "The finding of the multiple 1’s in the denticles was put forward by Tim Cartwright in his article Analysis of the 1862 S4 in Longacre’s Ledger, Vol. 10.3, September 2000. While we will never know for sure if this is the true cause of these protrusions, Tim’s assessment has more of a chance of being correct than any other explanation. Compare with S11. {65, 64, 64, 62}"
