NGC MS 63.
This is a union thaler of Ludwig II. This particular coin was made with different dies (mule type) - obverse die engraved by Carl Friedrich Voigt with his name under the bust. This die reflects younger king, no mustache or facial hair. Reverse dies were designed by Johann Ries with new ornament under the arms as well as slightly different design of the supporting lions - tails up etc....Small amount of this coins were minted in 1871 - exact mintage number is unknown. We got lucky to have one graded as MS 63 by NGC - top population and the only one graded as we know about. The coin reflects mirror fields with some minimal contact marks, touch of champagne toning more pronounced on obverse, spectacular uncirculated details of the king's portrait and the arms. True collectible gem!
