These coins were stuck with Proof-Like surfaces by the US Mint in San Francisco for the republic of the Philippines to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Bataan Day (April 9th, 942). At this time, I don't know who designed this coins. The following is a photo of the
Fall of Bataan historical marker at the Bataan Provincial Capitol grounds.
If the photo of the historical marker doesn't appear above, here is the text:
"
THE FALL OF BATAAN - 9 April 1942"
"
Sealed in blood the permanent ties of friendship and cooperation between the Philippines and the United States. This marker is dedicated, 9 April 1952, to the memory of the gallant Filipino and American soldiers as well as civilians, who fought and died side by side in the defense of Democracy."
The PCGS grade for this coin is PL67. At the time this coin was purchased, the PCGS population for this coin was 1 with none finer, and there were none graded above MS66 by NGC.
