HOLY LAND COLLECTION: ISRAEL: Early Years 1948-1957

Category:  World Coins
Owner:  Perfect-70
Last Modified:  2/12/2019
Set Description
This set (ISRAEL. Early Years 1948-1957) is the 2nd Custom set in the HOLY LAND Complete COLLECTION.
Early Israeli coins were issued from May 14, 1948 (when the State of Israel was created) till December 31, 1957 (up to Monetary Reform commencing January 1, 1958, when Agora Denomination was introduced).
The coins of this set were cataloged in Krause-Mishler Catalog as KM#8 thru KM#20a, following the British Mandate of Palestine coins 1927-1947, which were cataloged as KM#1 thru KM#7.
This Custom set actually is the composite of the series of 8 Competitive sets (by Denomination) of Israeli coins (1948-1957), including also silver 500 Pruta, which is missing from Competitive sets.
There are 29 coins total in Complete Collection of early Israeli coins.
This Custom set is intended to consist of 29 slots of MS and PL issues only (no PROOFS), and as such will be complete per NGC census & NumisMedia.com/ Krause Catalog listings of early Israeli coins.
Note: Slot(s) for PROOF coins could be added for display purposes only.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Monetary system: 1,000 Mils = 1 Pound.
~~~
Reform Coinage: 1,000 Pruta (Prutot) = 1 Lira.(1949 - December 31, 1957) until Monetary Reform commencing January 1, 1958 (when Agora Denomination was introduced).
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
NOTE: only NGC-certified coins are included in this Custom set.
NOTE: PCGS-graded coins are included in our DUPLICATE Custom set:
"ISRAEL. Early Years 1948-1957 (DUPLICATE)",
which is not the part of our grand HOLY LAND COLLECTION.
Set Goals
The goal of HOLY LAND Complete Collection (Custom and Competitive sets together complementing each others) is to assemble ALL coins of the State of ISRAEL's first 38 years:
1948 - 1985, starting by the first Israeli coin of 1948 (when the State of Israel was created) and till Monetary Reform commencing September 4, 1985 (when NEW SHEQEL denomination was introduced). .
~~~~~~~~~~~~
The extended goal of HOLY LAND Complete COLLECTION (Custom and Competitive sets) is to assemble also 59 coins (Circulating issues only) of 21 preceding years 1927-1947 of Palestine under British Mandate. The Palestine coins 1927-1947 were cataloged as Israeli coins KM#1 thru KM#7.
So the extended goal of HOLY LAND Complete COLLECTION is to show Numismatic history of Holy Land for almost 6 decades: 1927 - 1985 (!)
~~~~~~~~~~~~
The HOLY LAND Complete COLLECTION is intended to be complete per NGC census & NumisMedia.com/ Krause Catalog listings of 1927-1985 Israeli coins (including Palestine under British Mandate).
So it is a real challenge to assemble such a comprehensive Complete Collection 1927 - 1985, comprised of really UNCIRCULATED coins only (MS60 - MS70) graded by NGC.
NOTE: this Custom set is intended to show early Israeli coins in highest grades certified by NGC (per NGC Census).
NOTE: PCGS-certified early Israeli coins you may find in our DUPLICATE Custom Set:
"ISRAEL. Early Years 1948-1957 (DUPLICATE)".
