Set Description
This set will consist of the many varying Hard Times Tokens of the United States which were made during very difficult economic times beginning about 1832 and continuing through 1844.Many were issued as Merchant Tokens and also as Political Tokens of the time.Most were made to fill the shortage of large cent coins.These tokens were made mostly in Copper or Brass with some pieces,such as the Feuchtwanger Cent and Three Cent tokens which were struck in German Silver and commonly referred to as Feuchtwanger Composition.Some Tokens were also made in odd denominations such as the Feuchtwanger Three Cent Piece and the 1837 Half Cent token made of pure copper.

Set Goals
To display an interesting variety of these most interesting and historically significant tokens.Display a number of both political and merchant tokens of this interesting series.

View Coin   UNITED STATES (1833) HT-70 I TAKE THE RESPONSIBILITY BROADSTRUCK 30.5mm NGC MINT ERROR MS 62 BN A beautiful Hard Times Token graded MS 62 BN by NGC.This token also is a centered broadstruck error.Quite rare to find this type of an error on such a large token.Errors of this type are more apt to be found on other tokens such as the Civil War era tokens.
View Coin   United States (1834) HT-6 ANDREW JACKSON NGC VF Details A nice Early Hard Times Token of President Andrew Jackson in brass.Even though this token was cleaned in the past it still is a nice looking piece of American Political History.
