Denier KM-41

And the debate begins, is it France or Germany. KM’s standard catalogue lists this coin under Germany while NGC lists the coin as France but NGC uses the KM-41 designator which is found under Germany.

I guess technically neither may be correct, I really don’t know. When this coin was minted Lorraine was not part of France or under French control. So at a minimum NGC is wrong. The ruler, Karl III, was definitely Germanic but Germany at that time was not a unified country (they needed Bismarck to come along first). I lean to listing this coin as German over Franch only because of the ruler was Germanic.

This was an eBay purchase This is a great grade for this coin.

I purchased this coin on eBay for $66.
