He was given the eastern half of the empire by his brother Valentinian I after the latter's accession to the throne. Valens, sometimes known as the Last True Roman, was defeated and killed in the Battle of Adrianople, which marked the beginning of the collapse of the decaying Western Roman Empire. Unlike his brother Valentinian I, Valens had very little military experience before becoming Emperor. However once becoming Emperor he led several military campaigns. These included: • Revolt of Procopius • War against the Goths • Conflict with the Sassanids • Gothic War • Battle of Adrianople at which Valens died. All this in a span of 14 years, he had to have been continuously on the move. My cost $40
