Set Description:
Welcome to this beautiful set of virtually perfect SBA clad dollar coins, all graded PF 70 ULTRA CAMEO at NGC! Forming the collection occupied a pleasant search of almost 15 months, culminating in the thrill of finding the elusive 1981-S Type 2 which, at the time of its purchase, was the single example granted the ultimate condition certification by NGC's graders.
When this set began, it seemed Anthony dollars interested only a very few. SBAs appealed to me for several reasons. Foremost is the moving symbology of the stunning reverse design. "From many one" reads the Latin adjacent to a distant oasis Earth, while the Eagle, as both spacecraft and proxy for humanity, descends to the lunar surface carrying the olive branch of peace. "We came in peace for all mankind." It doesn't get any better.
Next is the obverse portrait conveying the simple strength of a woman who sought dignity for all. This isn't a flashy design; there's no allegory here. Rather, it's a straightforward reminder that any individual can make a positive difference in the lives of others.
Finally, I enjoy the aesthetic appeal in this oft-neglected coin's blend of mirror fields and frosty devices. Both obverse and reverse strike a nice balance between content and background, neither too busy nor exhibiting vast reflective expanses. The 11-sided inset at both rims frames the coin in an unusual counterpoint to its circular reeded edge.
SBAs may not be for everyone, but assembling this lineup has been fun and educational. Thanks for checking in!
