Set Description:
The world celebrates the Apollo 11 Mission, that launched on July 16, 1969 and lasted 8 days, 3 hours, 18 minutes, and 35 seconds, on its "gold" anniversary of 50 years.
With a crew of 3:
Neil A. Armstrong
Edwin E. Aldrin, Jr.
Michael Collins
Armstrong, and Aldrin became the first to walk on Earths moon. This concluded a great "space race" which was a goal set by young US President Kennedy in 1961.
[John F. Kennedy (May 25th 1961): "before this decade is out, of landing a man on the Moon and returning him safely to the Earth."]
In 2019 the US Mint honored not only this great United States of America feat, but the worlds, in a Commemorative series. All coins share common designs and are curved (domed).
The series included:
5oz 99.9% Silver $1 Coin
1oz 99.9% Silver Dollar in Proof (P) and Uncirculated (P)
Clad Half Dollars in Proof (S) and Uncirculated (D)
90% Gold $5 in Proof (W) and Uncirculated (W)
Special 2019 Kennedy Half in Enhanced Reverse Proof (S)*
My set includes the "First Releases" label because I felt it truly honored the "first" in this historic celebration.
*Only available in a $53.95 Apollo 11 50th Anniversary 2019 Proof Half Dollar Set that included this Kennedy and a Proof Apollo Half
