Set Description:
I got into Indian collecting as a measure of retribution after I spent $130 of my 13th birthday money in 1982 at Merri-Seven Coins in Livonia Michigan. I asked "Lucky Leo" for the best coin in the house for the money and he sold me an 1888 indian cent which I treasured for years. Some 40 years later I learned from NGC it was whizzed and only worth $30 in present day money. Whizzed coins were certainly in vogue then, but "geez". I buy a lot of EE or CAC coins (if only for the 2nd opinion) and have got lucky a few times, notably my 1908 which is one of the best few surviving and the 1872 S-1 is the best surviving to my knowledge. Still don't know how I got it for under $5,000. When NGC made the unfortunate Registry decision a few years ago I crossed over much of my set to PCGS (as I had a few more PCGS examples at the time). I'm very thankful NGC reconsidered their decision, allowing me to purchase their fine coins once again.
