Set Description:

This is a 4 coin set of .925 silver shillings. They were minted in the years 1935, 36, 38 and 45. The designer was George Kruger Grey whose initials are on both the Obv. and Rev. The Obv. shows 2 scepters with a crown and a boar tusk necklace. On the Rev. it shows tribal native artistic designs. This set is dedicated to the brave men of the U. S. Army 32nd Inf. Div., the 126 & 128 Inf. Reg., also the Australian 7th Div. who fought so bravely in the Buna/Gona campaign in New Guinea Nov.1942 - Jan.1943. Incidently, the reason all New Guinea coins of this era have holes in them is because the natives strung them around their neck. No clothes, no pockets.
