Gorgeous early Jefferson nickel with very strong strike and super luster. Variety appears to be 1939 REVERSE of 1940 (older holder; slabbed prior to variety attribution on slabs), but not 100% sure. Monticello sports 2 full steps and 2 partial steps, net about 3.25 steps. Many areas of the fields on both sides exhibit a matte-like finish. Most of coin is bathed in very light yellow-gold toning (toning stronger along rims). Only a few very light contact marks and scratches are present commensurate with grade. Cost: $56.65 on 12/4/14 on eBay from Sheriff (rockhunter1).

Nice early proof Jefferson nickel with pretty strong strike. Devices on both sides exhibit light cameo frost (Monticello is a litle stronger), but not enough to get CAMEO desigantion from NGC. Obverse is essentially white with a few faint wisps of light blue toning. Reverse is awash in light pinks, blues, and greens. There are several light contact marks and scratches present commensurate with grade. Cost: $39.72 on 11/4/12 on eBay from Sally's Collectibles (fairtraderz).

Interestingly toned war nickel example in old NGC green label "fatty" holder with 9-digit serial number. Reverse exhibits 4 mostly full steps with a few light marks on them. Reverse toning includes bright yellow-gold toning (most of lower half) along with light gold, pink, orange, and gray. Obverse toning includes lots of pink, orange, blue, light gold, and yellow. A few light contact marks and scratches are present commensurate with grade but these are largely obscured by toning. Cost: $48.98 on 12/12/12 on eBay from David Humphrey (coinhumphrey).

Interesting war nickel example in old NGC "fat" slab. Reverse exhibits nice full steps although not attributed. Yellow-gold toning covers most of coin. Several reverse fields and the lower obverse near the rim also exhibit light blue toning. Some darker gold toning is present above Jefferson's head. Reverse appears to be flawless. Only detraction on obverse appears to be a small scratch on TJ's shoulder. Possible upgrade candidate. Cost: $30.00 on 2/20/11 on eBay from Steve Bennett (stevemb0_2).
