NGC Names Numismedia as Its Official Price Guide

Posted on 5/12/2005

NGC, the leading 3rd party coin grading service, recently announced the naming of NumisMedia as its Official Price Guide. Since 1998, NumisMedia has provided an extremely fair and balanced price guide, and updated it monthly. “Our new relationship with NumisMedia is based on NGC’s mission of constantly improving the numismatic environment for collectors,” said NGC Chairman Mark Salzberg. “To be able, through NGC’s name recognition, to present this impartial and independent price guide to a wider audience will have a positive effect on the collecting community as a whole.”

In the current collecting environment, there is a definite need for a price guide that delivers the highest standards of impartiality and fair market value. “We selected this price guide,” said Salzberg, “because we feel their goals and ethics reflect the good of the collecting community as a whole — as do ours — and because of the proven accuracy of their pricing standards. It’s definitely a win-win situation for numismatists, and we’re proud to be leading the way in moving the hobby forward by making this valuable resource more accessible. ”

NGC makes its census report available on their Web site free of charge, detailing the number of coins certified in every grade for each coin type. Now, with NumisMedia's participation, NGC will list the NumisMedia price for those coins directly beneath their census number. Because this is a free service, the prices will only be listed up to a grade of 60.

The NGC Registry will also integrate NumisMedia pricing, allowing members of the Collectors' Society with registered sets to have access to an "Inventory Sheet," which will list the NumisMedia value next to the coin in a special view of their set. Only the set owner will have access to the inventory sheet for their set. Paid members will see the full grade range of pricing (through 70), and free members will see pricing up to 60.

Paid members of the Collectors' Society also have access to a tool to look up and verify NGC certification numbers. NumisMedia pricing will be added to these screens, showing a price for coins that are looked up.

Price guide subscribers receive updates on the latest industry news, interesting and engaging columns, information about online auctions, inventory reports, and more. “NumisMedia represents a total resource for collectors,” Salzberg said.

NumisMedia, based in Aliso Viejo, CA, was formed to provide the coin collecting community with a dependable and accurate means of electronically interacting to buy and sell coins. Augmenting the proven standards of collecting with next-generation communication tools, NumisMedia leads the way in the advancement of the hobby. NumisMedia may be contacted by writing to 26895 Aliso Creek Rd., Suite B #327, Aliso Viejo, CA 92656 or by calling 949-362-3786.
