Proof Trade Dollars are Superb

A superb collection of proof United States Trade Dollars, complete from 1873 through 1885, has been certified and encapsulated by NGC. Each coin carries the pedigree of the BRS Legacy Collection.

Comprising thirteen coins in all, this collection is outstanding for both its completeness and the amazing overall quality of the individual specimens. The average grade for this collection is PF 66, an astonishing achievement given that this collection includes the extremely rare trade dollars of 1884 and 1885.

The highest graded piece is the proof-only date of 1879, which achieved a whopping PF 68 certification from NGC. It is also one of four entries from this collection bearing the coveted NGC star designation for outstanding eye appeal. Another stunning specimen from this collection is the proof-only 1882 trade dollar, grading PF 67 Ultra Cameo.

Completing the date sequence of proof Trade Dollars from 1873-1883 is considered a major achievement for any collector, but the owner of the BRS Legacy Collection has also obtained the exceedingly rare issues of 1884 and 1885, of which just ten and five examples are known, respectively. Each of these famed rarities has been certified as PF 63 Cameo. His 1885 specimen, the rarest of all Trade Dollars and among the rarest of United States coins, carries a dual pedigree as a former entry in the legendary Amon Carter Collection.

Interested in coin collecting since childhood, the unnamed owner of the BRS Legacy Collection set aside his hobby during college and while establishing his business, which is now a highly respected, national company. His passion is primarily for 20th Century coins, with a major exception being Trade Dollars. His passion is so strong that when he sets out to build a collection any old coins just won't do; he insists on the finest and prettiest pieces known. He will reject a coin if he feels it is even slightly off.

The BRS Legacy Collection was assembled under the guidance of Laura Sperber, President of Legend Numismatics in Lincroft, New Jersey. “Working with BRS has been a thrill, observed Sperber. “His dedication to his sets and his eye for quality are rivaled by few collectors and dealers.”

NGC Chairman Mark Salzberg was likewise impressed with the uniformly high quality of this collection. “This is a very important collection,” Salzberg stated. “You can see that this was a labor of love and took a long time to assemble.”
