The Maryland Silver quarter was the seventh coin released in the 50 State Quarter Program and the second released on March 13, 2000. The obverse side depicting President George Washinton was modified to include some of the wording previously used on the reverse. The modification was autorized by special legislation, and carried out by Mint sculptor-engraver William Cousins, whose initials were added to the truncation of Washinton's neck adjacent to those of the original designer, John Flanagan. The Governor approved theme of the coin. The Old Line State. Which highlights the Maryland Statehouse and is surrounded by White Oak leaf clusters and the nickname The Old Line State. Reverse Designer: Thomas D. Rodgers. Mintage (965,421) in Silver Proof Sets only
