||QUARTER DOLLARS - SEATED LIBERTY, MOTTO
||NGC MS 67
While most pops for this series are relatively static, this date has seen dramatic changes. A year ago PCGS had graded only three coins MS-64, today that number has surged to twelve (since corrected to seven). The resubmissions must be fierce as the prize is great with only one coin, a MS-66, graded higher. Given the plentiful mintage (182,000), high grade specimens are surprisingly tough. The PCGS coin combines with this coin and one other MS-66 at NGC to top the charts. An example of Briggs 1-B. The die scratches on the reverse from the eagle's neck under its right wing to the R in AMERICA and on to the dentils are diagnostic. A coin with lovely lavender toning and strong eye appeal. Bought from Bill Nagle, July 2001.
