Owner Comments:

The second 8 in the date is lightly recut within the upper and lower loops. An immaculately preserved example, both sides are fully brilliant without a hint of patina. Every detail is fully struck up, and even close examination under a loupe fails to reveal any distractions. This coin appears as fresh as if it had just recently been struck, despite its 125 years in existence. Although 3,575 proofs were struck, this date usually commands a premium because of the low production of business strikes of this year. A notable specimen for the most discriminating collector. Top dog as a cameo.
