Owner Comments:

Jefferson Type Nickel, Wartime Variety (Type 2). On October 8, 1942, the wartime five-cent piece composed of copper (56%), silver (35%), and manganese (9%) was introduced to eliminate nickel, a critical war material. A larger mintmark was placed above the dome on the reverse. The letter "P" (Philadelphia) was used for the first time, indicating the change from nickel to alloy. Mintage: 27,600 proofs. This coin was purchased over eBay from Fairtraderz out of Sacramento, CA on 09/12/06 for $1,825.00. Population as of 09/13/06: NGC 15, PCGS 10. Only ONE PCGS coin grades higher!!!
