||QUARTER DOLLARS - SEATED LIBERTY, NO MOTTO
||NGC MS 66
A hard coin to grade and a hard coin to type. After extensive examination and comparison to Larry Briggs' book I make this coin to be a 7-F. I am more confident in terming the reverse Reverse-F, a definite Type-2, although the letters UAR but not DOL seem to be lightly re-cut. The obverse is another matter. I finally settled on Obverse-7 only due to the position of the date with the 1 in line with the point of the shield. The grading of the coin is equally difficult. I rate the reverse a shot 7. Beautiful, lightly toned and only a line above the D in DOL from perfection. I'm not sure what to say about the obverse. Not too attractive being deeply but irregularly toned and weakly struck, the stars show no centrils, probably MS-65/MS-67. Overall the grade is reasonable. Bought from Eric Streiner February 2005.
