Owner Comments:

Years ago this was a scarce date, but with the discovery of the SS Central America the 1857-S Double Eagle is now by far the most common type 1 $20 coin. Over 5,000 gold coins were recovered during the initial recovery efforts. Many more of this date are likely to be recovered during the ongoing recovery process.

This coin does not have the appearance of the SS Central America coins and is not likely to be one of the shipwreck coins.
