||HALF DOLLARS - SEATED LIBERTY, NO MOTTO
||50C 1841 O
||NGC MS 66
WB-101, large mint mark. An early strike from these dies with no obvious die cracks on obverse or reverse. W&B indicate this reverse die was still used to strike coins dated 1841 in 1842 after the dies had begun to break down. So this clean strike was undoubtedly minted in the year of issue. The most interesting feature is an apparent doubling on the reverse of the letters ALF DOL, and what looks like two-tiered dentils around the date on the obverse. Tied with one other atop the charts at NGC; PCGS has graded none finer than MS-64. From Jason Carter in 2004.
