Owner Comments:

The 1992 panda coins were stuck in both proof and BU quality. The proof coin included a “P” mark on the panda side of the coin to denote the proof quality. The silver fineness and weight printed on the coin is only in English writing (the Chinese symbols were removed and remained off on all following years). The BU coin had 2 varieties – small and large dates. The small date was minted at the Shenyang mint, the large date at the Shanghai mint and proof coin at the Shanghai mint. The small and the large dates both utilized a “serif” style 1. The large date BU and Proof Panda coins have a frosted Panda bear; however, on the small date coin the Panda bear is not frosted. This was the first year where the Temple of Heaven side of the coin included a ringed border around the Temple. All the years following continued with the ringed border design.

Mintage was 100,000 BU and only 20,000 Proof

This may be the only year that the large date coin had a frosted panda and the small date coin had a non-frosted panda. (In 1993 both the large and small date coin varieties each had a frosted and a non-frosted panda).
