Owner Comments:

The majority of Mint State survivors from this 20th century Morgan dollar issue display numerous bagmarks, weak impressions, and poor eye appeal that would hardly do justice to a grade above MS 62. Believing that they would never locate an attractive specimen, dealers and collectors alike essentially gave up on this date around the middle of the century and concentrated on other, more aesthetically pleasing issues. Time has, however, proved most kind to the modern Morgan dollar specialist. In the 1980s, a group of crisply struck, beautifully toned 1904 Morgans emerged from hiding and sent shockwaves through the numismatic community. According to Bowers, these pieces were most likely obtained directly from the Philadelphia Mint at the time of issue.
