NGC US Coin Census for Three Dollar Gold (1854-1889)

Owner Comments:

Three dollar gold pieces struck during the Civil War years of 1861 thru 1865 are all considered rare and highly coveted. Since 2007 I have recorded every three dollar gold piece I have seen offered for sale or at auction. The rarest Civil War date is undoubtedly the 1865 with only 32 different coins seen in the past 13 years. The other four Civil War dates all vary between 55 and 65 appearances each over the same time period. This 1867 date has been overlooked by many and has not been considered especially rare. However, it is definitely rare, appearing for sale only 41 times in the past 13 years.
