Owner Comments:

Commemorating Mexico’s freedom from Spanish rule, the Centenario, or 50 Mexican Peso gold piece, is a historical Mexican gold coin that offers excellent bullion value.

Minted in 1921 through 1947 it is believed to be one of the largest gold bullion coins minted for currency, it measures 37 mm in size and contains 1.20565 Troy ounces of pure gold with a fineness of .900 for a net gold weight of 37.5 grams. Although expensive all the coins in this series are available in uncirculated grades at small premiums over bullion value.

The 1943 is a one year type with relatively low mintage of 89,000 pieces and rather than showing the denomination to the right of Winged Victory it shows the gold content.

Purchased in the early 1970s from gold importer John Dowd, Albany NY
