||HALF DIMES - SEATED LIBERTY, STARS OBVERSE
||H10C 1841 O
||NGC MS 66
Although this coin is the only MS-66 graded at the services (there are three 67s graded higher), it is not particularly strong for the grade. There is no sign of wear, but there are a plethora of other issues. Both obverse and reverse dies are heavily rusted, heavily clashed and heavily lapped. I thought the reverse die had to be on its last legs with at least seven die cracks from the rim (both ends of the ribbon, through the U and between the T E in UNITED, through the A and second S in STATES, through the R in AMERICA) until I came into possession of another example (graded MS-67* by NGC) where these cracks were much more severe and starting to develope cud-like features. Bought from John Feigenbaum at David Lawrence, August 1998.
