Owner Comments:

O.101 R1 Finest known of this tough overdate (that might not really be an overdate it seems). "Frosty and highly lustrous silver surfaces host a faint golden flush with a few tiny dark specks on each side. This remarkable half dollar is tied with just one other MS66 NGC specimen for the finest that we have handled, and those two coins are the finest existing 1822/1 O-101 half dollars. The other specimen, once part of the Eliasberg Collection, appeared in our April 2009 sale of the Kaufman Collection, and it has since been removed from its holder. The present coin is the only MS66 NGC specimen, according to that firm's Census Report.
Note: Our consigner suggests that this piece is unique with a "lettered over reeded edge." There clearly appears to be something unusual about the edge of this piece that deserves further study," per Heritage cataloger. Obtained from Heritage Platinum Auction on 1/4/2012, Lot 3224. Ex: Heritage Auction #1124 in April, 2009, Lot 2427.
