Owner Comments:

A nice clean $5 that was purchased at auction in 2007. MS 62 has been a favorite grade for me and I have looked long and hard and have always "bought the coin" and not the "holder". By doing so, just about all my "62's" are top notch for the grade. This is another high mintage date with 1,912,000 made although a vast majority no longer exist, through atrition of mass melting and the like. I always look to the hair and bun on the obverse and the main look for the reverse is the "feather detail". This coin rocks on all counts. A very well preserved coin to say the least.
NGC has seen a total of 2,691 coins in all grades with 990 in this grade of 62. There have been 365 in MS-63, 62 in 64 and only 6 coins have made the "gem" grade of MS-65. Each and every gold coin from the Liberty series in all sizes see only a maximum of 2-3% surviving. The rest just gone. Lost, buried, melted or whatever. Just gone and probably never to be seen again. I am glad I have a coin of this date from San Francisco to include in my $5 Liberty Gold collection.
