The Florida quarter was released on March 29, 2004, this is the 27th coin released in the 50 State® Quarter Program and the second released in 2004. Florida, admitted into the Union on March 3, 1845, themed the coin, Gateway to Discovery. The coin highlights the 16th-century Spanish galleon, an image of a space shuttle, and a strip of land with Sabal palm trees. The coin is inscribed: Florida; 1845; Gateway To Discovery; 2004; and E Pluribus Unum.
