Owner Comments:

Nicly mirrored with contrasting frosted devices. A few luster markings in the field and the face prevent this cameo DMPL from gem status. This 1881-P is the Vam 1 (normal die) with this specimen showing a die chip between the loops of the first 8 upper half. The reverse is also normal die, showing a weak strike on the breast feathers of the eagle. Wayne Miller in his Morgan Textbook quotes that the 1881-P is very scace in fully prooflike condition; even semi-prooflike pieces are elusive. A cameo prooflike with minimum abrasions usally commands a runaway price. Condition Prooflike Rarity is 8 out of 10 according to the textbook. PCGS population reports show 57 in DMPL MS64 and 7 in DMPL MS65 with none graded higher.
