Owner Comments:

The Alabama State Quarter was released on March 17, 2003 as the 22nd coin in the State Quarter Program. Alabama’s original Statehood date was December 14, 1819.

The reverse theme is “Spirit of Courage” and features Helen Keller. Born in Tuscumbia, Alabama, Helen Keller overcame the lost of her sight and hearing to become a world-renowned author, lecturer, political activist, and disability rights advocate. In addition to an image of Keller, the reverse displays her name in braille. A magnolia is portrayed on the right side of the reverse and a long leaf pine branch on the left.

I visited Helen Keller’s birthplace, known as Ivy Green, on October 21, 2022 and took a picture of the original plaque announcing the selection of the Helen Keller design to represent Alabama’s State Quarter.
