Owner Comments:

O.106 R1. "The C in 50 C has a split tail on this plentiful variety, leading to positive attribution from that diagnostic feature. This Gem is finer than any example recorded in Steve Herrman's auction analysis of early half dollar varieties where he lists a single MS65 that appeared in a December 1997 auction and wasn't certified. The fourth edition of the Overton reference lists two higher grade pieces that may or may not be any finer than this lovely Gem. Both sides are fully detailed with frosty luster and delicate golden toning. Population: 22 in 65 (2 in 65+), 5 finer (6/13)," per Heritage cataloger. Obtained from Heritage Platinum Night Auction on August 9, 2013, Lot 5635.
