South African Union coins were minted at the Royal Mint in Pretoria from 1923.
The sixpence is a silver coin containing 80% silver and 20% copper (silver content 2.26 grams).
The King George V series sixpence features a portrait of King George V on the obverse. The obverse design was by Bertram Mackennal. The reverse design was by Kruger Gray and from 1925 onward features a protea, still today the national flower of South Africa.
Total mintage of 1933 6P were 2 818 595.
